Is Trump After an Agreement or a Political Game

In his earliest official statements after returning to the White House Donald Trump stressed on preventing Iran from reaching nuclear weapons and at the same time, he expressed his interest for a diplomatic agreement with Iran.
According to Negaheno report Donald Trump referred to the importance of diplomacy while also reminding on the threat of Israel’s military attack against Iran’s nuclear bases, however these threats were more of a psychological one for Iran’s capabilities in the Honest Promise operations showed that any form of military action can lead to catastrophic consequences for Israel.Trump is after a wider agreement than JCPOA but his request for full halt of Iran’s enrichment is a key challenge on this way.
Iran’s officials have announced many a times that their nuclear programs are of peaceful nature and the supreme leader’s fatwa has banned any form of manufacturing nuclear weapons. Yet, the many experiences of the US breaking of promises has made Iran very cautious in accepting any new agreement.
Appointing Steven Witkoff as the man in charge of Iran’s portfolio and Trump’s efforts to reduce tensions shows that he is interested in sealing a historical agreement. Yet, the diplomacy path depends strongly on mutual trust and offering strong guarantees.
A successful interaction would require lifting of sanctions and preserving Iran’s international rights so as to cross the current dead-end.
