Some Key Points on the 2025 Parliamentary Election in Iraq

37 tense and competitive days have passed since the beginning of the 2025 parliamentary candidates in Iraq and from Saturday morning the entire Iraq will enter the silent stage of the election.
According to New Visiona report Iraq supreme election commissioner believes that this silent stage of the election will give the Iraqi citizens the opportunity to choose their candidates freely away from election propaganda.
The interesting point is that there are two ballot boxes in Iraq, one for special elections that will take place on Sunday participated by the armed forces of the health staff of the prisoners. The second is for the general elections that the entire people will take part.
Based on the latest statistics the number of ratified candidates has reached to 7744 people: there are 33 coalitions and 31 parties and a number of independent groups and representatives from religious and ethnic minorities who will be taking part in this election.
The Mughtada Sadr stream has boycotted this election. The Sunni groups surprisingly and different to past elections have taken part and have displayed widespread propaganda.
The main competition among the Sunni sect is held between Mohammed Al-Halbousi, the former head of the Iraqi parliament and the head of the Taghadom party and Khamis Al-Khanjar. Both are trying hard to become the head of the sixth Iraq parliament.
The two Kurdistan democratic party led by Masoud Barezani and national union party led by Bafel Talebani are also the two great rivals.
The main competition among the Shiites is held between Nouri Al-Maleki head of the Ghanoon (law) government coalition and Mohammed Al-Shiah Al-Sudani the current Iraqi prime minister who is also in charge of the development and construction coalition group.
